Welcome to the official website
for the Village of Luck.
Here you will find information on local government activities, links to area businesses and organizations, and a calendar of events.
The Village of Luck, incorporated in 1905, is a community of over 1,200 people located in the northwest part of Wisconsin in Polk County. Luck is approximately 65 miles northeast of St. Paul, MN and 275 miles northwest of Madison, WI. Although the Village is within easy driving distance to the Twin Cities, it retains that small town charm.
According to one of the local legends, the loggers in the 1800’s, who were on their way to the St. Croix River, were lucky to make it to the big hotel on Big Butternut Lake in Lawson City before sundown. If you made it that far, you had put in a long day and were “in luck,” therein lies its name.
Today, Luck is blessed with an excellent school system, a beautiful public library and historical museum, many natural amenities including Big Butternut Lake and the Gandy Dancer Trail, and a business district devoted to serving residents and visitors alike. The community hosts two celebrations each year, Lucky Days in July and Winter Carnival in February.
So whether you call Luck home or are just visiting for the weekend, a week, or longer, when you’re here, “You’re In Luck.”
